Welcome

We investigate the pathophysiology of cerebral ischemia, employ neuroprotective agents and intra-arterial stem cell therapy to enhance post-stroke functional recovery. Identifying the molecular mechanisms of stem-cell-mediated recovery after stroke will enable us to optimize stem cell efficacy that could also lead to the identification of novel drug targets for stroke. We use different techniques to study repair pathways related to inflammation, mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum protection, angiogenesis and neurogenesis.

As a team, we look forward to the challenges and excitement of dissecting intriguing mechanisms of stroke neuroprotection by rescuing mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum functions by stem cell therapy. Currently, we employ small animal stroke model (MCAo, global ischemia, cardiac arrest) surgeries  with all preclinical parametes like transcranial doppler, mean arterial blood pressure, brain oxygenation, temperature, etc.) behavioral studies, morphometric, immunofluorescence and small animal imaging, mitochondrial respiration along with biochemical, molecular biology and cell-culture techniques. However, as we go about our investigation we treat no technique as off-limits!
